The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) are apparently outraged at President Obama’s senseless slaughter of an innocent fly on national TV.
PETA reportedly is demanding that the President issue a formal apology, make full restitution to the fly’s family, and declare July, 2009 to be “National Winged Insect Appreciation Month.”

Just to close the loop on this post, SignOnSanDiego.com (ht: 5 pt. Salt) reports that San Diego County has decided not to force David Jones to obtain a religious assembly permit for holding a Bible study in his home.
Just a couple of observations on my part:
1. It seems as though the code enforcer was a bit overzealous in the first instance
2. It’s important for home Bible studies to be considerate of neighbors
3. Regardless, we should be thankful for our religious freedom. It’s probably more tenuous than we think.
